Abdul Sattar Edhi

  • Abdul Sattar Edhi founded the Edhi Foundation in 1951, which has grown into Pakistan’s largest and most trusted social welfare organisation. Today, it operates hospitals, orphanages, shelter homes, rehabilitation centres, and the world’s largest volunteer ambulance network.

Edhi Sahab did not lead from behind a desk. He collected donations himself, drove ambulances, and worked on the ground every day. He lived simply and served directly — showing by example what selflessness truly means.

Those who saw him with children, the elderly, and residents of Edhi Homes witnessed his deep compassion and genuine care for human dignity.

Often referred to as the “Mother Teresa of Pakistan,” Abdul Sattar Edhi remained committed to one principle throughout his life:
Serve all people — regardless of religion, background, or belief.
